Global Age-Friendly Design Awards 2010 competition announced

Global Age-Friendly Design Awards 2010 (GADA 2010) invites students, design professionals, design firms and the general public to submit their ideas on products that can change and enhance the lifestyles of the elderly.

Previously known as International Design Awards in 2008, the competition drew interest from more than 200 participants from Australia, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. This year it hopes to increase the number of entries from local and international design communities and agencies.

Submissions must be the original design of participants and must not have been previously released commercially or submitted to other competitions. Designs from both group and individual work can be submitted for this competition.

Entry to this competition is free of charge.

• Creativeness in solutions
• Commercial value add and manufacturability
• Relevance to the elderly market
• Ease of use and relevant aesthetics
• System and environmentally sustainable and friendly

Swatch Young Illustrators Award 2010

The Swatch Young Illustrators Award is an unique competition awarding creativity and innovation in personal contemporary illustration and graphics.

The award encourages and supports designers in their artistic practice and offers an international and worldwide recognized platform.

In three categories, illustrative art works, art projects with graphic influences, animations, installations and book art objects qualify for submission.

A jury, consisting of international art directors, well-known illustrators and publishers, will nominate artists in each category in October 2010.

At Direktorenhaus in Berlin, the “Illustrators Night” will take place on November 5th, where the nominations will be celebrated with an exhibition and a party.

Deadline for submissions is October 22, 2010.

Pet care display design competition!

PAVE the Way, a 3D Design Challenge is an exciting opportunity available for students to showcase their work at a major industry event, GlobalShop 2011.

College students who are enrolled in accredited store design, interior design, visual merchandising, and industrial design programs are invited to design a 3D floor fixture for this competition, which is sponsored and presented by B&N Industries.

Design, develop, and construct a branded store fixture (no larger than 36-inch square footprint and 60 inches high) to display PET-SPECIFIC ACCESSORIES AND/OR PET CARE PRODUCT. The fixture should communicate the attributes of the merchandise that it houses and highlights. You may choose any species: dogs, cats, fish, birds, horses, reptiles, or any pet. Your design solution should be concise and constructed with care and professionalism. You may choose an existing brand to display, multiple brands, or create your own brand.

Awards:
First Place: $5,000
Second Place: $2,500
Third Place: $1,500
Honorable Mentions: $500

The Buckminster Fuller Institute announces the Call for Entries to the 2011 Buckminster Fuller Challenge, an annual $100,000 prize program to support the development and implementation of a solution that has significant potential to solve humanity’s most pressing problems.
